Past week I initiated a workshop together with a group of other people within my department in which we presented the basic principles of iterative development cycles, improved functionality-based planning and increased smiles on our customer's face.

A colleague of mine ran into Niels Malotaux earlier this year, and he is now coaching two projects within my development department. His approach is called Evolutionary Project Management, it is pragmatic and gets the basics introduced quickly. The best thing is that planning is moved to team members and makes everyone responsible for the overall planning (no more "project manager's blame"). EVO gives developers more control over their own agenda. And the more motivated developer learns to plan based on functionality and involve the customer at all times.
